USER MANUAL ERRATA
The following are the known errors in the User Manual.
• Installation Instructions: A new installer has been implemented in Version 2.0.3 whose behavior is a bit different from that described on pages xix–xxi of the manual. Please read the accompanying “Installing Ofoto” instructions which supersede the manual.
• EPS CMYK file format: The EPS CMYK file format is not documented on pages 94–95 as an alternative to the color-separated file formats TIFF CMYK, and DCS. It should also have been mentioned on pages 27, 114, and 159. It is mentioned on page 141, although this reference is not included in the index. (The file format is described in the “Ofoto® Hints & Tips” file under COLOR FILE FORMATS AND CALIBRATIONS.)
• Built-in calibrations in screen shots: The built-in calibrations shown in screen shots and examples throughout the manual are not accurate. For a correct list of built-ins to use for basis calibrations, see page 137.
• Moiré Removal option: The Moiré Removal option now appears in the Options menu, instead of in the Automatic Operations submenu as described on page 132. Unlike the Automatic Operations, turning it on or off takes effect immediately, rather than on the next preview scan. The screen shots of the Options menu that appear throughout the manual should appear as follows:
INSTALLATION
• Compression: Some of the files on the Ofoto disks are compressed and must be expanded before they can be used. Files named Ofoto Install Data 1, 2 or 3 cannot be drag-installed. You must use the Installer to install Ofoto on your hard disk.
• Custom installation: The installation routine will return you to the main install dialog if, during installation, you choose to skip installation of some files. The logic of the program is that you may, in fact, choose to install more individual files. Choose quit when you are finished custom installing Ofoto.
• New Installer: A new installer has been implemented in Version 2.0.2. Please read the accompanying “Installing Ofoto” instructions which supersede the installation instructions in the manual.
• Virus-checkers: If you have virus-checking programs on your system, see the warning in the User Manual (pg xix) about disabling them before installing the software.
• Reinstalling without changing scanners: If you are reinstalling Ofoto Version 2, do not throw away the entire OfotoFolder in the Preferences folder unless absolutely necessary as this contains all custom calibrations and templates you have created. However, you should throw away the OfotoPreferences file located within the Preferences:OfotoFolder.
• Re-installing to use multiple scanners on the same system: The Ofoto Preferences folder contains specific calibration information for the scanner you choose during installation. Because of this, you should move your existing OfotoFolder out of the System Folder:Preferences before you re-install Ofoto. We suggest that you create a folder called XX Scanner and move the OfotoFolder into it. Then, after you have re-installed and run Ofoto, create another YY scanner folder and copy the new OfotoFolder into the YY scanner folder. Now, you will be able to switch between the two OfotoFolders when you switch scanners. Failure to do this will result in poor output for both color and grayscale images. Re-installing Ofoto with an Ofoto Preferences file resident in the System folder will cause Ofoto to work improperly.
• Coexisting versions of Ofoto: If you have Ofoto Version 1 installed on your system, you do not have to remove it before you can install Ofoto Version 2. They can coexist on the same system as long as you do not run them simultaneously (as only one can operate the scanner at a time). However, the Finder does not distinguish between Version 1 documents and Version 2 — it sees all Ofoto documents as belonging to the same version. If you double-click on a Version 1 document, the Finder may launch Version 2 to open it (or vice versa). If this happens, Quit Ofoto, manually launch the correct version, and then open the file using the Open command.
• De-installing Ofoto Version 1: If you have Ofoto Version 1 installed on your system, and know that you aren't going to use it, or its calibrations, again, you can deinstall it before installing Ofoto Version 2. Drag the Ofoto application to the trash. Remove (or backup) the Ofoto Preferences file in System Folder:Preferences. See the “Ofoto® Scanner Information” file to remove the Version 1 scanner driver(s).
APPLE 8•24 GC CARD AND QUICKDRAW PRINTERS
The Apple 8•24 GC video card has a QuickDraw accelerator that can cause corrupted output when you print to a QuickDraw printer (such as the Apple Color Printer, the HP DeskWriter C, or the SuperMatch ProofPositive). This is not a problem when printing to a PostScript printer.
To turn off the QuickDraw acceleration, double-click the 8•24 GC INIT in the Control Panels, and click the “No pencil-rocket” symbol.
